Reputation Management

“I had the good fortune of receiving a referral to Marathon Law. Even if I had not received such a favorable outcome to my automobile accident case, I would have been satisfied with the legal services Marathon Law provided. Unlike at larger law firms, I received direct, prompt and personal attention from both Jeff and Malissa. Both attorneys were responsive to my emails and communicated in an easy-to-understand, non-legalese manner. Jeff and Malissa are extremely professional, but approachable. Their careful guidance and client-centered approach facilitated my participation in the process and instilled my confidence and trust in their counsel. The daunting and confusing task of finding personal, compassionate and competent legal services was simplified with my choice of Marathon Law. Thank you both!”

Personal Attention For Your Case

Unlike other firms, when you call for a free consultation, you’ll speak directly with Jeffry Dougan or Malissa Williams, both experienced trial attorneys. We take the time to carefully review each client’s case before offering any recommendations and we continue to work directly with our clients though out their entire case.

Compassion For Our Clients

Our Denver law firm is dedicated to helping people with real problems find real solutions. Our law firm lives by one simple rule - Always Put the Client First. Tired of attorneys who won’t return your calls? Sick of lawyers just telling you what you want to hear? Looking for someone who tells the truth and makes time for every client? Then we’re the right firm for you.

Trial Experience

One of the most important questions to ask when hiring an injury lawyer. Anybody can haggle with the insurance companies, accept a lowball offer, and move on to the next case. But how many lawyers will don their gloves and jump in the ring when it’s time to fight?

Jeffry Dougan is a former deputy trial attorney for the Colorado State Public Defender. That means he has taken cases to trial more times than he can count. And in the process successfully settled hundreds of cases for his clients.

Can your injury lawyer say the same?

Specializing In Personal Injury Law

Many attorneys say they handle personal injury cases, but few have the actual expertise to get results. These cases are complex and require the right training, skills, and experience to win.

Marathon Law has the people, resources, and experience that make the difference.

How Injury Claims Work In Colorado

There are a few basic rules that apply to any type of case. Some are the law, while others are a means to strengthen your claim. Either way, it’s in your best interest to follow these guidelines as closely as you can.

  • Always Report An Accident - Even if the damage is minor and you believe the other person is at fault. Without filing a report, you run the risk of forfeiting your right to a claim later. Besides, who’s to say the other person won’t file a report and say that YOU were the one at fault. Better safe than sorry.
  • Contact your insurance company – Failing to do so in a timely manner may harm or negate your case in the future.
  • Speak with an attorney – The sooner you get an attorney involved the better. Especially while evidence/injuries are fresh and witnesses are easy to find. Your attorney will advise you on what to do and say (and not) to protect rights and fortify your case.
  • Seek medical attention – Serious injuries don’t always appear right away. It often takes time for swelling and soreness to set in and the true impact to be known. Not documenting these problems right away could mean problems down the road.

Once you have your bases covered, it’s time to work with an attorney to see what’s next.  When you’re injured due to someone else’s negligence, you have several options. We can help you decide which one is right for you.

  • Insurance Claims - In most cases, victims seek compensation from the at-fault party’s insurance company. All policies have limits. But oftentimes you can reach a fair settlement with the insurance company and avoid the high costs of going to trial.
  • Out-of-Court Settlements - Negotiating a settlement with liable parties takes more time than filing a typical insurance claim. However, when policy limits prevent accident victims from being fully paid, we may recommend settling out of court.
  • Courtroom Trials - This is what separates Marathon Law from the rest of the pack. As a former trial deputy for the Colorado State Public Defender, attorney Jeffry Dougan knows his way around a courtroom.

It bears mentioning that Colorado personal injury claims have statutes of limitations. That means if you fail to file a timely claim you may forfeit your rights.

Most types of negligence claims (slips, falls, and other accidents) can be filed up to two years after the incident. While auto accidents involving injuries or property damage have up to three years to be initiated.

The complexities and costs of a Colorado personal injury trial make lawsuits the option of last resort for many victims. But sometimes, when the other side won’t listen to reason, you’re left with little choice but to go to trial.

Other times, going to trial is just the right decision.

No matter which path you choose, Jeff and Malissa will be there to assist you every step of the way. As a personal injury victim – or someone who has been hurt at work – you deserve full compensation for the pain and suffering you have endured.
